The EC Protocol aims to provide guidelines on ecosystem condition measurement and accounting, fostering corporate responsibility and promoting biodiversity conservation and restoration, enabling companies to better comply with disclosure and target-setting frameworks and regulations.
Objectives of the EC Protocol
Building upon the knowledge and standardization established by the Align initiative, we aim to continue and advance its progresses. Our objectives can be summarized in:
- Propose a clear definition of ecosystem condition and related concepts (such as ecosystem extent) in a business context;
- Propose a framework to differentiate responsibilities (linked to the value chain boundaries or Scopes);
- Clarify the accounting rules, such as stocks and variation of stocks of impacts;
- Clarify the link between concepts such as Nature Positive, the targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework and corporate ecosystem condition accounting;
- Test the compatibility of impact assessment tools against the protocol.
